Nothing Is As It Appears
When someone is hiding behind the mask, the beginning of the relationship feels absolutely perfect. You spend time together, share the same interests, and everything seems to fall into place. But nothing is as it appears.
To those around you, it might look like the relationship is moving incredibly fast, but they rarely speak up. While you might misunderstand this intense pace as them being deeply loving and caring, it is actually an early form of control. It is far from love.
As the relationship progresses, you meet their family and friends, and everything seems to be going well—aside from the subtle insults disguised as compliments.
They will drop backhanded comments about how you dress, how you act, and your overall appearance. Ironically, these are often the same things they claimed to love about you in the beginning.
Behind closed doors, these insults become increasingly hurtful and hateful. Yet, in front of an audience, they disguise them as playful jokes, leaving others to think they are just being cute or funny.
The moment the mask begins to slip, it usually means they can no longer control you, or they have already found a new target. They will discard you at the worst possible time—remember, this was their strategy all along.
If you decide to leave, never reveal your plan to them. They will use every bit of leverage they have to guilt or manipulate you into staying.
Get help, go completely no-contact if you can, and go somewhere safe.
They are not sorry, they will never change, and they will never address the real problem. Instead, the blame will always be shifted back to you. The longer you stay, the worse the abuse becomes.
This video below is by Stephanie Lyn Coaching and explains what the narcissist is hiding behind the mask. They want to control and manipulate you. The mask is always different.
